MLS releases postseason schedule

When the playoffs start, and the date the league will crown its 25th champion

MLS: Chicago Fire at Seattle Sounders FC Jennifer Buchanan-USA TODAY Sports

With Decision Day looming, Major League Soccer announced the schedule for the upcoming Audi MLS Cup Playoffs. The post season will get underway starting on Friday, November 20. With the league crowning its 25th champion on Saturday, December 12.

Due to Covid-19, MLS expanded its playoff structure by four teams. So this season a total of 18 teams qualify for the postseason tournament. The top six teams in the east, which includes the Philadelphia Union, automatically qualify for the first round.

You won’t have an issue finding the games, as all 17 games will be broadcasted nationally on ABC, ESPN’s networks and Fox’s networks. The tournament will also see 14 games played over 13 days, talk about a rough schedule. However, between the MLS is Back tournament and the recent schedule I would say the players are use to it.

FOX Sports will cover matches in every round of the postseason, including the Eastern Conference play-in game. Fox is also hosting this year’s MLS Cup on Fox.

ESPN will also cover each round leading up to 2020 MLS Cup, highlighted by an ABC showcase of a conference finals match that will determine one of the two MLS Cup finalists. The leagues says this is the first non-championship MLS postseason match on ABC since 2006.

Univision’s UniMás/TUDN will again bring fans Spanish-language coverage of two Audi 2020 MLS Cup Playoffs Round One matches, as well as expansive coverage of the league’s pinnacle match, 2020 MLS Cup.
