A positive Covid-19 case within the Philadelphia Union II organization has led to the postponement of Sunday’s USL Championship match against Hartford Athletic at Subaru Park.
The team announced the postponement early Friday evening. The team did not identify the individual other than to say they are either a member of the player pool, the technical staff or someone with close contact to the team.
“Proceeding with an abundance of caution, the postponement comes after a covered person in the Philadelphia Union II organization tested positive for COVID-19,” the statement read. “The individual has been immediately isolated at home and is in good spirits under the care of team physicians.”
The Union II last played on Wednesday, a 3-2 win over New York Red Bulls II.
The Red Bulls are slated to play the Pittsburgh Riverhounds at Highmark Stadium in Pittsburgh on Saturday evening. No changes have been announced for that game.
Wednesday’s game at Subaru Park was closed to the public, but there was a small number of game day staff, media representatives and family members of players in attendance.
This is the first announced case of a player testing positive for Covid-19 within the Union II organization. Kacper Przybylko has been the only identified player to date to test positive from the first team roster and technical staff.
The next game on the Union II schedule is August 19, which also happens to be at Subaru Park against Hartford Athletic. A makeup for Sunday’s game has not been announced.
