Whether Brenden Aaronson is still with the Philadelphia Union in 2021, there will still be an Aaronson on the roster.
The Union announced the signing of Paxten Aaronson on Wednesday to a homegrown contract effective January 1, 2021.
“At 16-years-old, Paxten already knows how to create opportunities for himself and his teammates on the pitch,” said Ernst Tanner, Union Sporting Director in a news release. “He has impressed our technical staff with his ability to play a final ball and he’s an intelligent player and a hard worker who gives everything for this club. Paxten exemplifies our commitment to developing academy players and we look forward to welcoming him to the team.”
The Medford, N.J. native joined the Union Academy from Real Jersey FC in 2015 and made his USL Championship debut in July. He is the 15th homegrown player in team history and the 12th since the club launched a full-time development academy in 2013.
Aaronson, who is an attacking midfielder, will play the remainder of the season with Union II but will remain an amateur through the end of 2020.
