A long-time Arsenal scout has been brought into the orbit of Atlantic City FC, which announced the appointment of Francis Cagigao to the club’s board of directors on Thursday.
Cagigao was at the London club for more than 20 years and was involved in the scouting and signing of some big name players like Cesc Fabregas, Robin van Persie, current LAFC star Carlos Vela, current Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta and more.
His playing career started in Arsenal’s youth academy and took him to multiple stops at the professional level in Spain and England.
“To work with someone of Francis‘s character and skills is massive for our organization, having his input on shaping our culture and future should help build the love and passion for the sport in our region,” said Drew Weilgus, president of Atlantic City FC. “We believe it will also further enhance opportunities for young players on both the men’s and women’s side.”
Atlantic City FC would have been playing in their third National Premier Soccer League season in 2020, but the season was canceled because of Covid-19.
Cagigao will also be involved with 1812 Barrie FC, a Canadian club for which Weilgus is a part owner. Julian de Guzman, the most capped Canadian player, is president of the club.
