Two Division 1 women’s soccer conference playoff games will be played in the area this weekend with La Salle and Villanova both playing host.
La Salle plays Dayton on Saturday at 1 p.m. at McCarthy Stadium in an Atlantic 10 quarterfinal match. The Explorers are the fourth seed. Their game Saturday will be their first Atlantic 10 championship match since they hosted Dayton in a quarterfinal in 2017. They went on to win the conference tournament that year and book a spot in the NCAA Tournament.
Saint Joseph’s also booked a spot in the quarterfinal as the seventh seed and will play George Washington at 1 p.m. Saturday in Washington D.C.
The Hawks won their last Atlantic 10 quarterfinal in 2018 at home before losing in the semis to VCU. They’ve been in the conference tournament each of the last six seasons and are seeking a fourth straight trip to the semifinals. Grad student Dakota Mills is one goal away from 40 for her career.
Both Atlantic 10 championship matches will be broadcast live on ESPN+ (affiliate link).
Villanova earned the right to host a Big East quarterfinal after beating Creighton on the road 1-0 on Thursday night. It will be the first Big East tournament game hosted by the Wildcats since 2012 and their first time in the tournament since 2014.
Their opponent for Sunday’s game will depend on the result of a game this afternoon between Marquette and DePaul.
