Offseasons have never been dull for the Philadelphia Union.
Two pieces of information about Carlos Valdes' possible move during the Major League Soccer preseason were revealed today. The first was somewhat expected, as reports out of Colombia went back and forth on Valdes going to former club Santa Fe on loan, before claiming that the deal fell apart because the Union refused to accept the terms.
The loan has flip flopped between three months and six months, which would mean Valdes would miss three months of the MLS regular season, in reports from Colombia. Valdes himself said he wanted to play for three months on loan, but Santa Fe apparently wanted him for six months to help with the Colombian top league and South America's Copa Libertadores.
A few hours after the talk of the Santa Fe loan deal collapsing, ESPN's Jorge Ramos tweeted that Valdes could end up with a different team in a different country.
Jose Pekerman le recomendo a #BocaJnrs al defensa central Carlos Valdes actualmente en la #MLS @PhilaUnion
The tweet translates (with the help of Google Translate) to:
@ESPN_JorgeRamos: Jose Pekerman recommended central defender Carlos Valdes to #BocaJnrs, currently with the @PhilaUnion of #MLS
Boca Juniors have been one of Argentina's top teams for over half a century and consistently have been among the best teams in South America, producing some of the world's best talent. Nothing has, of the publishing of this article, been said of whether or not a move to Boca would also be a loan deal, or if it could possibly be a permanent transfer.
