Penn State outlasted Penn in a 2-1 win under the Friday Night lights at Rhodes Field

While Penn was the home team for a Friday night match with Penn State at Rhodes Field in West Philadelphia, the visitors had plenty of local talent returning home to play in front of family and friends.

Seth Kuhn, Daniel Bloyou, Femi Awodesu, Sean Bettenhausen and Kris Shakes, all former Philadelphia Union Academy players and graduates of YSC Academy were in the starting lineup for the Nittany Lions.

Isaac McGinnis, who also plays locally for West Chester United, opened the scoring for the hosts in the 9th minute but the Big 10 visitors responded with a pair of second half goals from Andrew Privett and Liam Butts to pick up the 2-1 win in front of 735 in attendance at Rhodes.

The Union were back in Chester for a Sunday night clash with Chicago Fire

The Philadelphia Union were long overdue for a home game and fortunately this time the weather held off for a beautiful August evening even if the 1-1 final against the Chicago Fire was another disappointing result.

The Philadelphia Union visited Red Bull Arena for the first time with fans since 2019 and came away with a gritty draw.

The Philadelphia Union played at Red Bull Arena in 2020 — twice in fact since Montreal Impact played games there — and came away with wins both times in an empty stadium.

Thursday night they visited their Eastern Conference rivals and played in front of fans for the first time since 2019.

The match had plenty of drama and action in it with both teams grabbing a goal to play to a 1-1 draw.

Shivant Krishnan was there for the Saturday afternoon friendly in Chester

The Philadelphia Union 2 were back in action for a friendly against USL League Two team Ocean City Nor’easters on Saturday at the Power Training Complex in Chester.

Nathan Harriel connected with Shanyder Borgelin on a first half goal to put the hosts in front going into the second half but Ocean City responded with two second half goals to win 2-1.

Tal Segev converted a penalty and Akeim Clarke scored the winner with about 10 minutes left.

Union 2’s next scheduled match is July 10 at USL League One side Richmond Kickers. Richmond won 4-0 in a match back in March at Power Training Complex.

The Union played their MLS Next rivals to a 2-2 draw last weekend at the Power Training Complex

The Philadelphia Union U15s hosted DC United for an MLS Next match last Saturday at the Power Training Complex and while they probably should’ve walked away with a win on a controversial offside call they did get a 2-2 result with their rivals.

Devon Decorte and Jaden Francis had the goal for the hosts.
