Philadelphia Union Development Squad battles Philadelphia Lone Star in UPSL debut

Carill Ansaji had the lone goal for the Union in the 4-1 loss to Lone Star

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. — The scoreboard read 4-1 in favor of Philadelphia Lone Star in the first game of the fall UPSL Northeast season but it wasn’t indicative of how competitive a match it was for the Philadelphia Union Development Squad in their UPSL debut.

Carill Ansaji scored the lone goal for the UDS off a cross from Noe Uwimana while Kanibah Kutu-Akoi, Eugene Dennis, Patrick Singbah and Alvin Dahn found the back of the net for the hosts at the John Bartram High School football field.

Chances were plentiful for both teams, but it was a pair of set pieces that set up goals for the hosts in the opening 45.

The Union grabbed momentum to start the second half and nearly found a goal back through substitute Luciano Sanchez but Lone Star keeper Liam Smith was able to make a big stop to deny Sanchez.

Just as it looked like the Union would cut the lead in half Singbah punished them with a goal to make it 3-0. Ansaji made up for an earlier miss when he made it 3-1 but Dahn then put the game out of reach with Lone Star’s fourth. The hosts had a chance to add a fifth on a penalty kick but the attempt from Singbah hit the crossbar and stayed out.
