Lionel Messi wasn’t playing but the “Medford Messi” Brenden Aaronson showed up with a late game winner to lead Red Bull Salzburg to a 2-1 win over Barcelona in a friendly on Wednesday evening in Austria.
The 20-year-old Aaronson is entering his second season with Red Bull Salzburg after his transfer to the Austrian club in January. He’s scored 7 times in 28 appearances for Salzburg, equaling his total goal output over two seasons with the Philadelphia Union in 57 appearances.
