Rate the U: Paxten Aaronson earns an A in first MLS start

Aaronson scored his first MLS goal and earned the highest rating in our Community Player Ratings Poll after the New England loss

MLS: Philadelphia Union at New England Revolution Winslow Townson-USA TODAY Sports

Paxten Aaronson’s long awaited first start for the Philadelphia Union came against the Supporters’ Shield leaders and while he wasn’t able to contribute to a win, his first goal was an unforgettable one.

His MLS Goal of the Week strike was certainly front of mind in our Community Player Ratings poll but his 90-minute first start was impressive for other reasons as well as the 17-year-old high school senior showed he wasn’t out of place going a full 90 minutes against a top team in the New England Revolution.

Aaronson finished with a 4.19 average rating. Andre Blake finished second with a 3.81 average rating. Olivier Mbaizo was on the opposite end of things with a 2.42 average rating after another challenging game for him. Leon Flach had a difficult game as well, giving up the penalty that ended up being the game winner for the Revs, and finished with a 2.71 average rating.

One thing in the results that was also clear is there a lot of fans who still don’t know how to spell Paxten’s name. An easy way to remember is the position he plays: Pax10.
