Sergio Santos suspended one game by MLS Disciplinary Committee

During the 56th minute Santos kicked a soccer ball toward the stands, violating a league policy

MLS: D.C. United at Philadelphia Union Mitchell Leff-USA TODAY Sports

Brazilian forward Sergio Santos will be missing Sunday’s game, as the Major League Soccer Disciplinary Committee has announced a one game suspension and a fine. The ruling comes from the Union’s game last Thursday against Orlando City. In the 56th minute of the match Santos kicked a ball toward the stands.

That acton violates the league’s policy regarding throwing or kicking objects toward the fans. This means the Philadelphia Union will be without the forward when they take on Chicago Fire FC at Subaru Park. Santos was also shown a yellow card on the play, which was his fourth of the season — one away from a suspension for yellow card accumulation.

With Jamaica being bounced from the Gold Cup, we should see both Cory Burke and Andre Blake back in the lineup for Jim Curtin Sunday night. So you should expect to see Burke playing more time than he would have if Santos was available.
