According to Brazilain journalist Lucas Rossafa, the Philadelphia Union is close to doing something fans have been looking for: adding a striker.
Matheus Davó, who has popped up in a few rumor mills over the last few weeks, appears to be the latest target of Sporting Director Ernst Tanner and Technical Director Chris Albright. The Union has reportedly been scouting in Latin America, with reports surfacing regarding Venezuelan midfielder Jesús Bueno and Brazilian striker Gabriel Silva Vieira.
Davó, 21, currently plays in the Brazilian second division with Guarani, however, his contract is owned by first division team Corinthians. Davo’s loan with Guarani is set to expire at the end of 2021, though his loan contract does have a purchase option. According to @Arquibancada_BR on Twitter, Guarani has been notified of Davó’s departure, though he traveled with the team to their match for Saturday evening.

While it’s unclear how the Union is acquiring Davo, according to @povotime1910 on Twitter, his time with the Union will reportedly also be on loan, and his contract will also reportedly come with a purchase clause as well.

Davó currently has 13 appearances in Brazil’s Serie B, alongside two goals and three assists for Guarani. According to Transfermarkt, Davó has started all of Guarnina’s games, while averaging around 70 minutes per match. The site lists his value at $660,000.
Should Davó’s move to the Union be finalized, he would join the ranks of Kacper Przybylko, Sergio Santos and Cory Burke as the Union’s true forwards, none of whom have more than 10 goals thus far into the season. As the Union look to set a solid forward rotation, fans could expect to see Davó get plenty of minutes upon arrival.
