Philadelphia Union midfielder José Andrés Martínez made his third straight start for Venezuela in Copa America group play Sunday and recorded an assist early in the second half to tie thee game at 1-1.
Playing out wide again as a winger on the right side in a 5-4-1 formation, Martínez was able to send in a perfectly placed cross for Edson Castillo to go up and head it past Ecuador keeper Pedro Ortiz in the 51st minute.
Martínez played 77 minutes in the match, which ended in a 2-2 draw after Ronald Hernández tied the game at 2-2 for Venezuela in extra time.
Venezuela is currently in fourth place in Group B with two points out of three matches. They wrap up group play on Sunday against Peru. Four of the five teams from each of the two groups advance.
