Kacper Przybylko was the center of three controversial no calls — two on penalty shouts against him and one on an elbow in the lead up to his late equalizer — but it was his goal in the end that salvaged a point for the Philadelphia Union in their seventh meeting with the New England Revolution in two seasons.
Przybylko’s goal, which stood after he headed home a second ball with Revs keeper Matt Turner on the ground from the initial collision, helped the Union avoid their third straight home loss for the first time since 2012. It was also Przybylko’s first league goal of the season, which might be hard to believe considering he is the leading goal-scorer in the Concacaf Champions League.
The goal was set up by a header won by Kai Wagner down the left flank and a good play by Jamiro Monteiro to track it down near the end line and whip in a cross into the six. Monteiro had two key passes on the night, second only to Olivier Mbaizo’s three key passes. Monteiro also had one of the only two other shots on target on the night. Sergio Santos had the other.
Andre Blake, meanwhile, was stellar again, making five stops on the night. Leon Flach had another solid night deputizing for Jose Martinez at the six, coming up with a couple tackles, including one that stopped a dangerous Revolution counter. Wagner was also active on the defensive end. Anthony Fontana, who was a Revs killer last season, had two shots from dangerous areas blocked but put in a solid shift off the bench.
