The signing Philadelphia Union fans have been clamoring for since they sold Brenden Aaronson and Mark McKenzie in the offseason has reportedly been completed.

MLSSoccer.com and Hungarian outlet Nemzeti Sport reported Monday that the Union have finalized the $1.8 million acquisition of attacking midfielder and forward Daniel Gazdag from Hungarian side Honved.

Gazdag likely won’t be able to report to the team until some time this summer with the visa process still slowed from the Covid-19 pandemic and his inclusion on the Hungary roster for the European Championship. Hungary begins group play on June 15.

His addition — for an amount second only to the $2 million transfer fee paid for Jamiro Monteiro — will strengthen the team not only for the MLS campaign but also for the Concacaf Champions League semifinal, which begins with the first leg in Mexico City in August.
