Philadelphia Union announce transfer of 20-year-old Leon Flach from FC St. Pauli
The U.S. youth international holds dual German and U.S. citizenship, which means he will not require an international spot. He’s the second player the Union have acquired from FC St. Pauli. Former winger Fafa Picault came to the Union from St. Pauli in 2017.

Philadelphia Union Sporting Director Ernst Tanner was joined by the club’s newest acquisition Leon Flach as they spoke with members of the media Wednesday morning.

What Leon Flach’s signing means for the Philadelphia Union
“We see Leon as a really good addition,” Tanner told media on a virtual press conference. “He can cover a lot of spots and he’s maybe not even a depth piece. We’re happy, we had been following him. Given that Philly lost two starters on the backline, as well as the No. 10 who played directly in front of him this offseason, Martinez’s job is both more difficult and more crucial. It is a huge test for him, and for the Union.
