Leon Flach has arrived in Chester and he has his Philadelphia Union number picked out.
The 20-year-old newcomer from FC St. Pauli will wear the No. 31 shirt for the boys in blue.
It was a number last worn by goalkeeper Carlos Miguel Coronel during his short loan stint in 2019 from Red Bull Salzburg and was also worn by reserve goalkeeper Chase Harrison in 2011. Cristhian Hernandez (2012) and Jeff Parke (2013-14) also wore it.
This will be the first time in the U.S. youth international’s career that he’ll wear the No. 31.
He most recently wore No. 38 for FC St. Pauli’s first team and No. 14 for the second team. He’s previously worn numbers 5, 18, 4 and 6.
No. 31 was the number German great Bastian Schweinsteiger, who finished his career in MLS at Chicago Fire, wore throughout his entire professional career.
