Jamiro Monteiro and Cape Verde booked a place in the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations with a 1-0 win over Mozambique on Tuesday night.
The Philadelphia Union midfielder started the match and played 90 minutes for the Blue Sharks, which qualified for the third time. The two previous times were in 2013 and 2015.
Cape Verde joined hosts Cameroon from Group F in qualifying for the tournament next January. Union defender Olivier Mbaizo and Cameroon already qualified for the 2022 edition of the competition as hosts, leaving one available spot from their qualifying group.
Cameroon drew Rwanda 0-0 on Tuesday. After starting and playing 90 minutes at right back against Cape Verde in the 3-1 loss last Friday, Mbaizo did not play.
