The Philadelphia Union are reportedly chasing Scottish center back Stuart Findlay, according to The Scottish Sun.
Findlay currently plays in the Scottish Premiership for Kilmarnock, and has had interest from the Hearts, another Scottish club. Now 25, he started out with Celtic youth before playing for Kilmarnock. He has one cap for the senior national team. Despite interest from other clubs, the report cites the Union as the favorite to sign Findlay. (It’s also worth noting that the article refers to the Union as the MLS Cup holders).
Union head coach Jim Curtin said earlier this week that replacements were coming for Mark McKenzie and Brenden Aaronson, who were sold to European clubs this offseason. Findlay would fill McKenzie’s position as a left-footed center back to pair with Jakob Glesnes or fellow Scot Jack Elliott.
So far the team has had a quiet offseason, but signings are expected before MLS play begins on April 17.
The Sun reports the deal somewhere in the six-figure range for Findlay, whose contract with Kilmarnock expires at the end of the season, making the Scottish side more willing to let him walk. His value on Transfermarkt is listed at $660,000.
While other details of the deal are unknown, the Sun says that Findlay should be heading to Philly within the month.
