Game Thread: Philadelphia Union 1 vs New York Red Bulls 0, Final

Kacper Przybylko got the Union in front, Blake and the backline kept them in front.

Game Updates

FINAL - Back to back shutouts for Blake. The entire backline needs to be given a standing O, as they also kept the ball out of the net a few times.

90+4’ - Handball called outside the box on Santos. One last set piece the U needs to defend here. KNOCKED OUT by Blake.

90+3’ - Free kick awared to the Red Bulls. Kacper gets a head on that ball and sends it out for a throw in.

90+1’ - We will have at least 4 minutes of extra time.

90’ - Kick played short and ends up to be a counter attack by New York. The attack lead to nothing. Union still up 1-0.

89’ - Union earn a free kick from top of the box on the left side. Set piece leads to a corner kick.

85’ - A diving Punch out by our anchor Andre Blake.

79’ - Santos so close to what would have been a goal of the week, he gets low and heads the ball wide.

78’ - After so many Union fowards decide to pass instead of shoot, the earn themselves a corner kick. They had two good looks in that series of passes.

59’ - Mistake by McKenzie on the giveaway gives the Red Bulls a chance, but Blake has the angle and makes the save. Union still up 1-0.

58’ - First change for Jim Curtin, Sergio Santos comes in for Wooten.

57’ - Counter attack for the Red Bulls leads to nothing.

56’ - Union going east to west as they move up the field leads to nothing.

52’ - Monteiro enters the refs book with a yellow for.... a very soft challenge is all I can really say about that play.

50’ - Red Bulls threatening here. However Aaronson comes into the top of the box to heads the ball out. Red Bulls fire it back on net, which was an easy save for Blake.

46’ - Second Half gets underway at 8:43.

45+2’ - Meara with a big stop to keep the Union only up by 1. He quickly jumped on that second chance ball to make sure the U didn’t have another chance.

45’ - Kick is sent to the back post but is cleared off the line thanks in part to Marc McKenzie. Union still up 1-0.

44’ - Gaddis returns to the pitch. But looks to still be dealing with some injury. Red Bulls have a corner kick.

41 - Gaddis is down. Play continues, it is now stopped with the trainers on the field looking at his ankle.

38’ - Red Bulls working hard to keep play in the U’s half of the field. Aaronson intercepts the ball and are now pushing the ball up the pitch.

31’ - Gaddis with a cross to Przybylko who sends it to the back of the net. Union up 1-0

25’ - Bedoya to Aaronson, who attempts to cross it on the ground into the box but it gets blocked. Union need to crack the puzzle of getting the ball into the box.

22’ - Union once again send the ball to the right side of the field. A space the Red Bulls keep leaving open as they crowd the middle part of the field.

18’ - Aaronson is all over the 18’ line. He is slow to get up after a slide tackle and is limping around. Looks to be shaking off the sting.
