Reports surfaced out of Colombia on Thursday that Philadelphia Union original Juan Diego González was murdered near his hometown of Medellin, Colombia.
The 39-year-old was on the Philadelphia Union roster their first two seasons in MLS, making just seven appearances in 2010. He retired from soccer after being released by the team in November 2011.
One of his former clubs in Colombia, Indendiente Sante Fe tweeted out news of his death and unofficial sources have indicated that the crime occurred on February 27 and that an investigation was still underway.

González played professionally for 15 seasons primarily in Colombia, but he also had stints in Argentina (San Lorenzo) and Mexico (Santos Laguna) prior to finishing out his career with the Union.
