MLS Cup Game Thread: Seattle Sounders 0 Columbus Crew 3, Final

90+5’ - FINAL WHISTLE! Crew wins their second MLS Cup.

90+4’ - Looks like we will be having an MLS Original Club lifting the trophy in the leagues 25th season. This is awesome and truly great for the city of Columbus after three years ago deailing the the drama of almost losing the Crew.

90’ - Crew makes their final sub here with Diaz coming off and being replaced by Waylon Francis.
Also Seattle will have 5 minutes to try and get at least 3 goals.

88’ - Crew making their second sub here. Artur comes off and is replaced by Fatai Alashe.

87’ - Nicolás Lodeiro’s shot from the center goes over the net.

85’ - Both players down in the center circle after Brad smith was Seattle’s last line of defense and takes down Diaz. Training staff is out to look at both players.

84’ - Crew making their first change of the night here as Héctor Jiménez comes on to replace Derrick Etienne.

82’ - GOOOOAAAALLLLL Columbus Crew. Lucas Zelarayan from the center of the box to the top left corner. This is his second goal of the night. This has to seal it for the Crew.

80’ - Room with a basketball style block on Jordan Morris’ shot.

77’ - Seattle makes their fifth and final change bringing in Jimmy Medranda for Shane O’Neill. So far Caleb Porter has made zero changes for the Crew.

72’ - Columbus with a bunch of poor clearances here and the ball keeps bouncing from Seattle player to Seattle player. Eventually Nicolás Lodeiro takes a shot from the top center of the box but it goes wide right of the net. Crew still up 2-0.

70’ - Columbus now defending a corner set piece down a man. The in swinging ball from the right side is blocked. Artur is now back on the pitch.

68’ - Artur who tries to pick Bruin’s pocket goes down and grabs his right leg. Trainers are now on the field looking at him.

64’ - Artur waiting to long to get the shot set up inside the right side of the penalty area as Brad Smith steals the ball right from his feet.

61’ - Díaz’s shot from the right side goes wide.

60’ - Another double Substitution being made here by Seattle. Kelvin Leerdam replaces Alex Roldan and Will Bruin comes on for João Paulo.

58’ - Seattle on the attack and is getting their fullbacks involved. On the left side of the penalty area the wait for the overlap. The cross off the overlap is blocked by Columbus.

54’ - Beautiful service for Seattle from the left side of the pitch to the right side. However the cross back through the penalty area had no one in the area to pick it up.

51’ - Seattle now on the attack here and earns a corner kick. The service is to the near post and onto the head of Roldan, which goes inches above the net.

50’ - Seattle’s Smith is given a yellow card for pushing Luis Díaz after Diaz fouls him. Seattle’s free kick is easily cleared.

48’ - Eloy Room forced to dive and make his first save of the night.

47’ - My gosh it was almost an own goal there but instead goes out for a Seattle corner. Which ended up being nothing.

46’ - Second half underway with Seattle making two changes during the half.
Gustav Svensson comes on for Joevin Jones and Brad Smith replaces Nouhou Tolo.

45+1’ - We will have one minute of stoppage time. We may have a little more because Luis Díaz was on the pitch for about a minute.

40’ -Cristian Roldan wins a free kick in the Sounders attacking half after Artur fouls him.

37’ - Morris jumps into the passing lane in the center circle and pushes the crew on the counter attack. The pass goes to a streaking Zardes at the right side of the penalty area but the shot goes wide of the net.

34- Play is stopped after Valenzuela and Ruidíaz collide in the air when both players went up for a header.

30’ - 5 minutes later and the Crew add another goal to their lead. Goal comes from almost the same spot on the left side of the net by Derrick Etienne Jr. Columbus up by 2.

28’ - João Paulo enters the ref’s book with a yellow card.

25’ - CREW take the lead! With a strike off a cross from the right side to the far post where Lucas Zelarayán taps it into a diving Frei. Crew 1-0.

22’ - Last five minutes finally have the Sounders finally playing in Columbus’ half of the field. Something that really hasn’t happened since the start of the game.

17’ - Crew once again with a corner kick which bounces around the penalty area. Zardes gets a foot on it and it is saved by Frei’s right arm.

14’ - Another hard tackle by Seattle and another foul. Columbus quickly in the refs face asking for a card, none have been shown. Crew send the free kick into the box and once again handled easily by the sounders.

13’ - Crew pick up a free kick after Morris is late on a slide tackle. The kick is is crossed into the center of the box but is cleared straight out.

11’ - Artur wins a free kick near midfield after a high kick by Nouhou Tolo.

5’ - Quick transition for Columbus who goes straight up the right side and earns a corner kick after a slide tackle. Two chances happened off the corner but Seattle was able to eventually clear.

2’- A cross that goes to far for Zardes to get on the end goes out for a corner. It is played short and when it does get crossed into the box Frei was able to get a hand on it.

1’ - The MLS Cup final is underway. Kickoff happened at 8:43
