It doesn’t include the team we wanted, but as they say in theater the show must go on. Saturday night will see the Columbus Crew SC take on Seattle Sounders FC for the MLS Cup. This is a familiar place for Sounders who are once again in the finals for the fourth time in five years, if they do win they will become back-to-back champions.
As for the Crew, who will be playing at home, are looking to win just their second MLS Cup title. The last time the Crew won the title was back in 2008 earn they beat the Red Bulls 3-1. Talking about his team’s collective defending, Head coach Caleb Porter had nothing but praise. “We’re good on the ball, but obviously we’re a good defensive team and that’s usually what makes the difference is the balance. We’re going to need that in the final because we’re going to be playing against a very good attacking team.”
To get to the finals, Seattle made three goals in 18 minutes after they were down 2-0 in the Western Conference Final. One struggle the Sounders will have Saturday night is depth at center back as Xavier Arreaga did not travel to Columbus as he waits for the birth of his child.
