Philadelphia Union II sinks Vereinigung Erzgebirge on windy day in Chester

The Union II won in a goalfest over VE on a windy day in Chester

The Philadelphia Union II continued to show off their clinical skill in front of goal with an 8-2 win in a friendly on Sunday afternoon over local amateur club Vereinigung Erzgebirge at the Power Training Complex.

After beating fellow United Soccer League of Pennsylvania rival West Chester United 5-0 with a four-goal second half on November 4 (they added a lopsided win over New York Red Bulls II in the interim), Union II started early on a windy day in Chester. Quinn Sullivan had a first half brace and Caden Stafford and Anthony Ramirez added goals before academy newcomer Marcos Zambrano drew a penalty and converted from the spot to match their output against West Chester in the first half.

The young Union II squad generated a number of additional chances in the second half — VE goalkeeper Tim Washam denied Sullivan a couple bids at a hat trick — but VE was able to get on the board thanks to a 30-yard volley from Evan Vare and center back Mike Reese was able to hit home a whipped in corner to make it 5-2.

The Union II counter was on to add to their lead and they finished the day with an 8-2 win behind goals from Selmir Miscic and Axel Picazo and a finish from Shaynder Borgelin, who missed most of the USL Championship season with an injury but has returned to the field for the series of friendlies.

Union II play today at 2 p.m. against Philadelphia Lone Star. The game is being streamed on MyCujoo.tv.
