After finishing last week’s game against Birmingham Legion 9v9, the Bethlehem Steel FC are back at Talen Energy Stadium tonight looking to bounce back against a fellow MLS 2 side they had another wild game with that they won 4-3 back in early April.
Unlike the Legion, which came in last week riding a long scoreless streak and shooting up the standings closer to playoff contention, the Swope Park Rangers come in sitting in last place in the conference with results in only nine of their 23 games — three wins and six draws.
Sergio Santos scored the late winner in his Steel FC debut in Kansas City when the teams last met, but he’ll be unavailable in this one after being ejected for an altercation with Zachary Herivaux last week in just his second appearance in the USL Championship.
The 19-year-old forward from Cameroon will be out serving the first of a three game suspension after he was sent off for colliding with the referee while protesting Birmingham’s eventual game winner. Faris was arguing that the goal should be waived off because he was tripped in the box before the goal was scored.
First team players Michee Ngalina and Olivier Mbaizo scored both goals in the Steel’s initial comeback from two goals down last week and neither were in the 18 for the Union on Sunday so they could both feature again tonight. Santos made his first appearance for the first team since July and scored a goal in a 3-1 win over Atlanta United on Sunday night, all while suspended in the USL Championship.
