The Philadelphia Union Academy have landed another new recruit from the the United States Youth National Team pool with left back Anton Sorenson committing to the program.
The 16-year-old from Michigan is joining the Union from the Wixom, Michigan-based Michigan Wolves, the same club U.S. youth international midfielder Nick Pariano joined from in 2017.
Sorenson is ranked 28th in the latest rankings for players graduating high school in 2022 by the website TopDrawerSoccer.com. The Ann Arbor native was part of the United States U16 team that finished third in the Torneo Delle Naizoni in Italy in May 2018.
He joins three other newcomers to the Union for the upcoming Development Academy season with U.S. youth international experience: midfielder Aaron Heard, midfielder Jack McGlynn and goalkeeper Mitch Budler.
Ben Ofeimu and Issa Rayyan, who are both on pro contracts with Bethlehem Steel FC, were both recruited to join the academy from Michigan.
The Development Academy season starts this weekend for the U19, U17 and U15 teams with games in Massachusetts against New England Revolution on Saturday.
