Community Corner: Should Andrew Wooten Start?

Should Andrew Wooten be in the starting XI?

MLS: Philadelphia Union at Real Salt Lake Jeff Swinger-USA TODAY Sports

Andrew Wooten is now available for selection for the Philadelphia Union. Andrew was brought in before the transfer window opened and has been practicing with the team for over a month. Fans had their first glance of Andrew Wooten during the Real Salt Lake game where The Union lost 4-0.

Wooten played for 14 official minutes during the RSL game and was almost able to score on his first touch as a member of The Union. Last week’s Rate The U results had the community award Wooten the man of the match, which is remarkable for only being able to see him for 14 minutes and not that many touches. I think it is obvious that the fans want to see him, but how bad?

I believe that competition in a locker room will make you better and it appears that is what we are seeing out of the strikers. Fafa Picault and Kacper Przybylko have definitely been playing some of their best soccer of the year for the past few weeks. I don’t think that is coincidence. So who is going to win the starting minutes?

So who would Wooten replace? Wooten has strength for the center of the box and is a striker that has a nose to finish the ball. Not exactly a speed demon or a play maker, so it seems like Kacper Przybylko is Andrews biggest comparison and possible competitor for starting minutes. Kacper has 9 goals and 1 assist in 16 games played so far this season.

Fafa Picault has played some better ball for the past few weeks but still currently sits at 3 goals and 3 assists in 22 games played. Fafa brings another part of the game to the field though with his speed and high press ability.

Who do you think should start up top for the Philadelphia Union?
