MLS: Chicago Fire at Philadelphia Union Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports

Chicago Fire traveled to Chester last Saturday night to play the Philadelphia Union during a burning Saturday night. The first place Union would take the game and all three points to the playoff race thanks to goals by Marco Fabian and Anthony Fontana.

You don’t make the shots that you don’t take. Fabian scored a fantastic goal in the 11th minute of the match to put the Union up by one. It was a laser of a shot from outside of the 18. This was the type of goal that the fans of Philly have been waiting from him. This could be a great start of a run for Marco.

The second goal of the night started with Kai Wagner taking the ball down the side line and beating three defenders for the ball inside of the box. With hustle and grit he won the ball and the Chicago defenders seemed to forget to defend the middle of the goal after Wagner crossed the ball to find Anthony Fontana available for the tap in. Wagner brings a lot to the field and was definitely missed last week against RSL and will be missed again while on yellow card suspension this weekend.

The team as a whole played a way better game then they did last week in Utah. Still, Chicago is in 10th place in the Eastern conference and the Union are in first place. Philly is going to need to tighten up their play on the field if they aim to keep possession of the 1st place spot with DC United and Atlanta United only a few points behind them. The next month and a half are going to be very telling of team and their coach.
