12 area teams set to begin quest for U.S. Youth Soccer National Championship

Twelve teams from the greater Philadelphia region will begin their quest for a U.S. Youth Soccer National Championship in Overland Park, Kansas on Tuesday.

Three teams from South Jersey and nine from Eastern Pennsylvania are part of the national championships for 13U through 19U age groups.

The Medford-based Real Jersey FC is the only club from the area with more than one team — they have a girls team in the 13U division and a boys team in the 15U boys division.

The first day of games will feature a local derby between Future Players Academy and Philadelphia Ukrainian Nationals in the 18U boys division. The two local teams are both in Group B. The game will be broadcast live at 6:30 p.m.

Lehigh Valley United and Lower Merion SC Rats, which played for the Eastern Pennsylvania State Cup that was named after Walter Bahr for the first time are in different groups in the 19U boys division but could meet again in either the semifinal or final.
