Happy Friday! The World Cup kicks off today in France with one game. Host France will get their campaign started against South Korea.

South Korea will look to become the first team to beat a host in the opening game of the tournament Sweden lost 1-0 to Brazil in the opener in 1995. Hosts have won six straight since then.

France beat South Korea in 2017 3-0 in the Round of 16 before being knocked out by Germany on penalties in the quarterfinal.

Reading Material

We’re lucky in Philadelphia to have one of the top reporters covering the women’s game in Inquirer writer Jonathan Tannenwald. He’s in France for part of the tournament and has a lot of great pre-tournament coverage to get us ready.

Our friends at SB Nation and All for XI will also be hard at work bringing insight and commentary.
