Rate The U: Kai Wagner voted man of the match in second MLS game

Has the Union finally found the left back answer?

Morgan Tencza

Kai Wagner (Kye VAHg-nur), a 22-year-old left back signed by Ernst Tanner and the Philadelphia Union before the start of preseason is your Brotherly Game Player of the Week for week two of the MLS season.

With an average rating of 4.06 out of 5, Kai passed last week’s player of the week, Andre Blake, who had an average rating of 3.59 this week. Kai stepped it up this week, leaving it all out on the pitch and the fans did not take it for granted.

When Wagner was signed, Tanner called him an “up-and-coming and very physical left fullback with high ability and even further potential.” After what I thought was a disappointing debut for Kai in the first week of the season, he definitely came out last Sunday afternoon to show why he is here, and why Ernst believes in him.

At the bottom of the poll, the readers rated Marco Fabián the lowest on the team with an average rating of 2.21 out of 5. This isn’t surprising after he missed a penalty kick and then was shown a straight red later in the match. Next to Marco was the head coach Jim Curtin with a rating of 2.22.

Curtin and the Union will be on the hot seat as they prepare to go to Atlanta to face the reigning MLS Champions. Thank you to everyone who voted this week.
