Report: Medunjanin and Fabian not returning to Philadelphia Union in 2020

A report from MLSSoccer.com cites a source saying the Philadelphia Union have declined Marco Fabian’s option and are not extending an offer to Haris Medunjanin

Haris Medunjanin wasn’t picked by Inter Miami or Nashville SC in yesterday’s MLS Expansion Draft but it appears as though the veteran midfielder won’t be returning to the Philadelphia Union either.

A report from Tom Bogert on MLSSoccer.com cites a source saying the veteran out-of-contract midfielder is not being extended an offer to return in 2020.

Medunjanin had one of the best seasons of his career in 2019, playing every minute in his third season in Chester. The former Bosnia and Herzegovina international turns 35 in March.

The report also notes the less surprising news that Marco Fabian’s team option for 2020 will not be exercised, meaning the Union will need to rebuild their midfield whether or not Jamiro Monteiro is back with the club.

The 2019 salaries of Medunjanin ($595,008) and Fabian ($2,274,087.24) made up 29 percent of the team’s total guaranteed compensation. Both players occupied international roster spots.
