Coming off of a not so great sophomore year in Major League Soccer, Jack Elliott has been one of the best players on the Philadelphia Union squad this year. For the fourth time this season Jack Elliot has been voted as Man of the Match. Not so bad for someone who was drafted 77th overall in the MLS Super Draft in 2017.
The team in general received a poor rating after the loss against the Columbus Crew last Sunday in a must win game in the race to retain the first place position in the play`off race. Jack received the highest rating with a 3.35 out of 5 in our community poll and has played every minute for the team this season.
Looking at the bottom of the poll we will find Marco Fabian, this year’s big signing. Marco is receiving a guaranteed compensation of $2.27 millions dollars, a club record. The Mexican international has found it hard to find starting minute on game days. He was substituted into the game last Sunday with 13 minutes left and with Philadelphia down by 2 goals. He received an average rating of 2.16 out of 5.
Jim Curtin would be found next to Marco Fabian on the bottom of the poll, with an average rating of 2.19. Jim came into this game with a more defensive mind set it appears. The starting formation for the team was a 4-2-3-1 wide formation with a loan striker on top of the formation. The substitution of Warren Creavalle for injured captain Alejandro Bedoya in the 44th minute of the match also came off as defensive since Warren is more of a defensive player. The game was tied at the time of the substitution.
The Union will have another important game coming up on Sunday against New York FC, who is currently sitting in first place in the East. For the last game of the regular season, Philadelphia will end up fighting for second place. The game will be in Chester at 4 p.m.
