International scouting has landed the Bethlehem Steel another teenager from Cameroon.
Defender Steve Kingue was announced as the latest signing to a USL contract in the Philadelphia Union organization on Friday. The 19-year-old comes to the organization on loan from Nfuko Academy Sports in Cameroon. He previously went out on loan to Estonia, where he played for Kalev Tallin.
“Steve is a solid, technically-skilled defender with a strong presence on the back line,” Philadelphia Union Sporting Director Ernst Tanner said in a news release. “We are excited to have him join Bethlehem and look forward to furthering his professional development at Steel.”
Kingue gives the Steel two defenders on their roster, joining 18-year-old center back Ben Ofeimu, whose signing was announced earlier this week.
He brings the Steel FC roster to eight players, leaving four more signings to be made to meet league roster compliance rules. Two of the additional spots can be used to sign international players.
Kingue joins fellow countryman Faris on the Steel roster. Union defender Olivier Mbaizo is also from Cameroon.
