Discussion Thread: Calm before the congestion

The Union have a weekend off before entering one of the most important stretches in franchise history

MLS: Philadelphia Union at D.C. United Brad Mills-USA TODAY Sports

It’s going to be a bit of an odd September sports weekend in Philadelphia with both the Philadelphia Union and the Eagles (who beat the Atlanta Falcons last night) off, so it’s a good time to take a breather and process what has happened in recent weeks.

What’s happened to the Union that is. Head over to Bleeding Green Nation for Eagles coverage.

The blue and gold are in the thick of a playoff race and one win away from hoisting a trophy after going unbeaten in six and posting wins in eight of their last 11 games in all competitions.

It’s pretty incredible isn’t it?

As head coach Jim Curtin has said every chance he’s gotten in the last few weeks, the Union haven’t won anything yet but there’s a reason so many of us are suddenly so optimistic about this team even if we are understandably nervous about Borek Dockal’s health and the eight games, a Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup final included, left on the schedule.

How are you feeling about the team right now? What do you think the keys will be for them to win the Open Cup, secure a playoff spot and make more than a short cameo in November?

Let’s talk it out in the comments.
