The Philadelphia Union had high hopes going into the match, but after going down by two goals in the first half, the team was unable to get back into the match.

An Auston Trusty own goal in the 65th minute to pretty much end the chances for Philadelphia, as the Houston Dynamo took a 3-0 lead.
Jay Simpson was brought on for Corey Burke in the 68th minute, and David Accam was brought on in the 78th minute for Borek Dockal, but neither sub provided the spark that the club needed. Derrick Jones came on for Haris Medujamin late, after the outcome had already been settled.
Despite a couple good looks late in the match, nothing could really get started in the final third for the Union, and the were condemned to yet another final loss, despite the good form of the Union and the relative position of the two clubs in the standings.
