The Philadelphia Union aren’t the only team in Philly to get a new mascot, as the Philadelphia Flyers introduced their new mascot, Gritty, earlier today.
The Union’s mascot, Phang, was panned by many fans as being silly or a tad ridiculous due to the arms, legs and hair on what was supposed to be a snake. However, with the introduction of Gritty, Union fans are probably thankful for what they got.
It me. #Gritty pic.twitter.com/HfTMVtEAFy

The Flyers introduced their new mascot, “Gritty” to the world today. And it’s getting a rather critical response from fans all over the world, and honestly, it’s easy to see why.
Can you tell what Gritty is supposed to be, other than creepy? Is Gritty an animal? A monster? It’s orange, and it has scary bug eyes, but doesn’t have a nose or ears, or at least none that can be seen. Gritty looks like a Halloween costume gone horribly, horribly wrong. It looks like a nightmare come to life, like a orange demon destined to spread a plague upon the land.

Small children see Phang and think he’s cute and want to go near him. Small children will see Gritty and get terrified. Seriously, did someone in the Flyers front office lose a bet?
Thanks fam! Can Phang come over tonight for a slumber party? https://t.co/3VSAmZaZaE

And after being welcomed to Philly by the Union, Gritty wants to know if Phang can come over for a slumber party? Fat chance, you murderous-looking muppet. I’ve read enough Stephen King novels to know what will happen if Phang goes over there to “spend the night.”
So Union fans, all things being equal, are you happy the Union went with a goofy looking snake over a creepy orange demon?
