Philadelphia native and United States youth international goalkeeper CJ dos Santos recently signed a contact extension with Benfica that will keep him with the Portuguese giant through 2023.
The club announced the deal on its website Monday.
The 18-year-old dual citizen has been in the youth ranks of the club since signing a pro deal two years ago and is currently with the club’s U19 team. He was back in the states recently with the United States U20 team for a four-team tournament in Florida.
He’s started three matches for Benfica’s U19 team this season.
Prior to signing with Benfica, dos Santos was one of the top prospects in the Philadelphia Union Academy. He also played for Continental FC, Philadelphia SC and Fox Chase SC.
We caught up with C.J. and Juan Blanco, another Philadelphia native pursuing his soccer dreams on another continent, when he was home over the summer.
