Bethlehem Steel FC announced yesterday the acqusition of 18-year old Cameroonian forward Faris Pemi Moumbagna.
Preferring just his first name of Faris, the young striker has done well for himself at the international U-17 and U-20 levels, recently making his debut for the Indomitable Lions against Uganda, aiding his side to a result that sees them advance to the next stage of the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations.
Faris comes in as the latest in a steady stream of young African talent that is making its mark on the organization, The Cameroonian joins countryman Olivier Mbaizo, Zambian Prosper Chiluya as well as the Congolese winger Michee Ngalina. If Faris can get off to as good of a start as his teammates have had, the recent lack of goalscoring from Steel might be a thing of the past.
On his new signing, Brendan Burke had this to say:
“He has already accomplished a lot at the youth levels in Cameroon. We think he has all the tools to be highly successful in the USL and hopefully break through to the MLS in the future. His movement is sharp and he is clever in the way that moves because he understands how to play the position instinctively.”
Faris will wear the number 35 and will be available on Wednesday against NYRB II at Montclair State University.
