25 youth champions crowned at Eastern Pennsylvania cup finals

Area youth teams picked up hardware at United Sports Training Complex in Downingtown on Saturday

The rain and the fog didn’t stop 25 Eastern Pennsylvania youth teams from being crowned champions at the state cup and Presidents Cup finals at United Sports Training Center in Downingtown last Saturday.

The state cup winners and runners-up advance to the eastern regional championships for U.S. Youth Soccer June 29-July 3 in Spotsylvania, Virginia while the Presidents Cup winners and runners-up advance to the regional cup in Barboursville, West Virginia June 15-18.

Champions from both regional competitions will advance to the U.S. Youth Soccer National Championships in Frisco, Texas from July 24-29 and to the Presidents Cup July 11-15.

Saturday’s winners included the 2004 boys from Harleysville FC, which avenged a loss to Lower Merion Invictus last year with a win in the U14 final.

“We’ve been playing these guys for years,” head coach Tom Quintois told Eastern Pa. Youth Soccer. “They beat us; we beat them. We respect the heck out of them. We really do. We know those guys. They know how we play. It’s awesome. It’s the way it’s supposed to be.”

Harleysville won the rematch on penalties after a 1-1 draw.

Eastern Pennsylvania ODP teammates squared off in the U15 Girls State Cup final won by Keystone FC Premier 3-2 over FCUSA. They included Elena Hinkson, Morgan Wood, Lauren Costello, Grace Sibert and Gianna Weigel for Keystone and Misa Kasparcova, Janae Stewart and Riley Wallace for FCUSA.
