West Chester United advances to regional final of National Amateur Cup

West Chester overcame a two-goal deficit and won a penalty shootout over FC Motown on Sunday

West Chester United fought back from an early two-goal deficit to tie the game and advanced on penalty kicks to the regional final of the USASA National Amateur Cup on Sunday afternoon.

Playing at home, West Chester United dug themselves a hole early when FC Motown scored twice inside 12 minutes. Chas Wilson started the comeback when he pulled a goal back for the home team in the 38th minute.

Philadelphia Union Academy grad Matt Greer found the equalizer in the 74th minute and later converted a PK in the shootout West Chester won 4-2. Goalkeeper Johnny Paletar saved the first attempt for FC Motown. Travis Cantrell, A.J. Bishop and Luca Mellor also converted for West Chester.

The Region 1 final will be played on June 16 at 7 p.m. at the Ukrainian American Sport Center in Horsham, Pa. West Chester United will face Boston club Safira FC, which defeated Newtown Pride FC 3-1 in the other semifinal.
