Goals from Aboubacar Camara and Axel Picazo got the Philadelphia Union U17s off to a good start in the Generation adidas Cup finals in Frisco, Texas on Friday night.
Picazo set up Camara for a tap-in on the first goal and then scored one of his own after taking a pass from Julian Anderson and beating two defenders to double the Union advantage over a U17 squad from Club Tijuana, according to tweets from the Philadelphia Union Youth feed.
Montreal Impact beat Colorado Rapids 2-1 in the other Group B match on Friday. The Union were initially scheduled to played Club Tijuana on Friday morning in one of the featured live stream events on the day, but after being delayed traveling to Texas the game was moved to late Friday evening with no stream.
After a day off, the Union next play Colorado Rapids on Sunday at 12:15 p.m. They close group play in the Premier Division of the competition on Tuesday against Montreal Impact at 10 a.m. eastern
The four group winners will advance to the semifinals of the competition, which features MLS academy teams that failed to advance through qualification to the Champions Division.
