Auston Trusty and Mark McKenzie earned their first senior national team call-ups and five other players from the Philadelphia area have been tapped for Gregg Berhalter’s first training camp as head coach of the U.S. Men’s National Team.
After reporting to camp in Chula Vista, California on January 6, the team will travel to Glendale, Arizona to play Panama on January 27 and will follow that up a week later with a friendly against Costa Rica in San Jose on February 2.
At 19, McKenzie is the youngest player on the roster. McKenzie, Trusty and four others on the roster (Jeremy Ebobisse, Reggie Cannon, Justen Glad and Djordje Mihailovic) are eligible for the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo.
Other players with local ties on the roster include former Philadelphia Union defender Keegan Rosenberry, who was traded to the Colorado Rapids on Wednesday, fellow Lancaster native Russell Canouse, Downingtown, Pa. native Zack Steffen, Woodbury, N.J. native Tyler Miller and Wyndmoor, Pa. native Daniel Lovitz.
Goalkeeper Alex Bono, along with Rosenberry, also spent time with the Union’s USL League Two affiliate Reading United.
