Cedar Stars Academy and Baltimore Armour came to town last weekend for back-to-back game days at Power Training Complex in Chester to close out the home portion of the academy teams’ league schedule for 2018.
The U17s made it nine wins out of nine games to start the season with a 2-0 win on Saturday over Cedar Stars behind goals from Aboubacar Camara and Danny Flores and a clean sheet from goalkeeper Lukas Burns. The first half goal from Camara was his fourth of the season — second behind Patrick Bohui’s team-leading 7 — and Flores’ second half penalty kick was his second in league play.
Dante Huckaby scored the lone goal on Sunday in the 23rd minute and Burns, who has started all nine matches for the U17s this season, recorded his sixth clean sheet. Paxten Aaronson made his U17 team debut as a late substitute in the 87th minute.
Through nine games, the U17s are outscoring opponents 27-4 and sit atop the Atlantic Division with 27 points though they are only two points clear of D.C. United, which has played two additional games.
The U19s still hold the division lead (by 1 point over Richmond United) despite dropping points in back-to-back games over the weekend. Tonny Temple scored a 64th minute equalizer on Saturday against Cedar Stars after the Union fell behind in the 56th minute on a George Altirs goal.
On Sunday, they had to fight back after blowing a one-goal lead and settle for a 2-2 draw. Leo Afonso opened the scoring in the 25th minute and Shaynder Borgelin found a 75th minute equalizer after Baltimore Armour scored two unanswered second half goals from Yassine Elkahloun and Johan Granados.
The U15 team had a back-and-forth affair with Cedar Stars on Saturday, settling for a 3-3 draw and edged Baltimore on Sunday with a 69th-minute game-winner from Quinn Sullivan. Marcelo Mazzola added his second goal of the season for the older age group on Sunday to go with 10 he’s scored at the U14 level.
Midfielder Dylan Lacey made his U15 debut on Saturday against Cedar Stars. Ian Abbey opened the scoring in the 11th minute with his first of the season, Million Evans doubled the lead in the 52nd with his third goal of the year and Sam Jones’ second of the season gave the team a lead they were unable to hold onto in the 66th minute.
Midfielder Henry Berstein scored the game-winning goal in his debut for the U14 team on Saturday against Cedar Stars and Rafi Sanjuan, Logan Oliver and Mazzola added goals in the 4-0 win. Oliver also scored in a 3-1 win over Baltimore on Sunday along with Beckham Aiman and Rafi Sanjuan. Dubon leads the team with 13 goals on the season.
Only one score was reported for the U13s from the weekend, that a 2-0 win over Baltimore behind second half goals from John Andrus and Julian Ramirez. Andrus leads the team with 14 goals and Ramirez scored his second of the season.
