South Jersey high school sectional champions crowned

Washington Township made it five straight South Jersey titles

Washington Township, Delran and Glassboro all repeated as South Jersey sectional champions on the boys side while none of the four public champions on the girls side won in sectional titles in 2017.

Top-seeded Washington Township won its fifth Group 4 South Jersey title in a row while No. 2 seed Delran won its fourth straight in Group 3 and No. 1 seed Glassboro won the Group 1 title for the second year in a row. The lone newcomer to the winners circle for South Jersey boys soccer was fourth-seeded Seneca, which beat Pinelands 1-0 in the Group 2 sectional final.

The girls sectional champions had two things in common: all were top seeds and none won a sectional title last season.

Eastern needed penalties to capture the Group 4 title for the first time in 12 years after a 2-2 draw with Shawnee in the fourth meeting this season between the two schools that included a Coaches Cup final also won by Eastern.

Moorestown lifted Group 3 sectional hardware on Friday with a 3-1 win over Toms River South, while Delsea beat No. 7 Cinnaminson 1-0 in Group 2 and Audubon topped No. 2 Schalick 4-2 in Group 1.
