Auston Trusty is considered the 10th best player under the age of 22 in Major League Soccer by a panel of experts that selected the league’s “22 Under 22” list.
Trusty joins Mark McKenzie (21) and Derrick Jones (22) who were unveiled in the first part of the list released yesterday.
Vancouver Whitecaps midfielder, who over the summer signed a deal to join German giant Bayern Munich, topped the list. Tyler Adams, Diego Rossi, Yangel Herrera, Jefferson Savarino, Ezequiel Barco, Reggie Cannon, Jesus Medina and Justin Glad round out the top 10.
The expert panel that put together the list included 19 individuals:
-Four anonymous technical staffers
-Ten members of the MLS Digital team (Matt Doyle, Sam Stejskal, Bobby Warshaw and Andrew Wiebe among others)
-Five soccer media members across North America, including Marcelo Balboa (Univision), Doug McIntyre (Yahoo Sports), Alexi Lalas (FOX Sports), Paul Tenorio (The Athletic) and Will Parchman (The Athletic)
Trusty, McKenzie and Jones join Keegan Rosenberry (Ranked sixth in 2016) and a host of former Union players whose career trajectories didn’t quite pan out to be recognized in what until this year was the “24 Under 24.”
Those names include Amobi Okugo (No. 13 in 2014, No. 8 in 2013), Jack McInerney (No. 4 in 2013, No. 23 in 2011), Sheanon Williams (No. 18 in 2012), Freddy Adu (No. 19 in 2012, No. 6 in 2011), Danny Mwanga (No. 9 in 2011) and Roger Torres (No. 22 in 2011).
