There was no second-half comeback in the cards for the Philadelphia Union as they crashed out of the playoffs with a second straight loss to New York City FC at Yankee Stadium on Wednesday night.
The Union looked better in the second half than the first but were unable to find their way back into the match. By the time Cory Burke pulled a goal back in the 83rd minute, the result was anything but in doubt.
Maximiliano Moralez made sure of that in the 78th minute when he chipped Andre Blake to put NYC up 3-0 and secure the Pigeons their first playoff victory in club history
Burke’s goal came off an assist from Ilsinho, who subbed on for surprise starter Warren Creavalle to start the second half. Head coach Jim Curtin also rolled the dice when he subbed CJ Sapong on for Keegan Rosenberry, but the Union were unable to solve New York City or their small Yankee Stadium pitch for the second time this week in suffering their third straight loss (all to teams with New York in their name) to end the 2018 season.
Here's a look at that finish from Cory
