Among the 11 former players being honored at halftime from the Columbus Crew team that won MLS Cup in 2008 on Saturday was a former Philadelphia Union captain and a current assistant coach.
Brian Carroll and Pat Noonan joined Andy Gruenebaum, Frankie Hejduk, Will Hesmer, Andy Iro, Steven Lenhart, Duncan Oughton, Gino Padula, Andrew Peterson, Robbie Rodgers. Coaches Sigi Schmid and Robert Warzycha were also part of the ceremony.
Carroll led the Crew team in minutes that season with 2,692 and played all 360 postseason minutes. The MLS Cup campaign was the Virginia native’s second in his career. He also lifted the trophy with D.C. United in 2004.
Noonan appeared in 11 games and started six during the regular season but did not appear in the postseason. Noonan won MLS Cup twice as a player, in 2008 and in 2012 with LA Galaxy.
