Lancaster native Drew Skundrich drafted by LA Galaxy

Skundrich and fellow Stanford captain Tomas Hilliard-Arce were both picked by the Galaxy in Friday’s MLS Draft

Drafted by the LA Galaxy on Friday, Lancaster native Drew Skundrich won’t have to say goodbye to the West Coast or fellow Stanford captain Tomas Hilliard-Arce to take the next step in his soccer career.

Skundrich was selected 40th overall in the second round of the draft held at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in downtown Philadelphia. Hilliard-Arce went to the Galaxy with the second pick.

A PA Classics standout and Hempfield High School graduate, the 22-year-old central midfielder played an integral but often overshadowed role on a Cardinal team that won the College Cup final each of the last three seasons.

Skundrich also picked up a significant piece of hardware prior to college when he was part of a Philadelphia Union youth team that won the 2012 Generation adidas Cup. Duke forward Brian White, who was drafted 16th overall by the New York Red Bulls on Friday, was also a member of that team, which was an All-Star team of sorts from affiliate youth clubs in the region.
