Philly Unity Cup kicks off, Jimmy Ockford on second straight USL Team of the Week

Jimmy Ockford (Yardley, Pa.) was named to the USL Team of the Week for the second straight week after scoring his third goal of the season for Reno 1868 FC in a 3-1 win over Orange County SC. Philadelphia Union midfielder Marcus Epps was honorable mention.

The Philly Unity Cup kicked off on Friday night. Philly Soccer Page wrote a preview of the second-year event.

Tickets have gone on sale for Villanova’s game against Georgetown at Talen Energy Stadium on Friday, October 13.

Rowan University junior forward Ryan Campbell had four goals in a 7-0 win over Albright on Sept. 6. He now has five on the season.

The Philadelphia Union hosted the first Philadelphia Union Cup at Power Training Complex last weekend featuring Union Pre-Academy teams and other teams in the U9-U12 age groups. The Union Pre-Academy teams all played up an age group. Winners included Manhattan Atletico (U9), Lighthouse Brigade (U10), Philadelphia Coppa 07 Young Guns (U11) and D.C. United U11 (U12). St. Joseph’s University goalkeeper Greg O’Connell connected with Matt Mullock (Moorestown, N.J.) on a long ball to win in overtime against Manhattan on Tuesday. You can see the video of the play here.

Pittsburgh Riverhounds defender Shane Campbell (York, Pa.) has been named as an assistant coach at Saint Francis University.

Penn Fusion Academy’s Jacob Frank has verbally committed to High Point University for fall 2018.

Players Development Academy defender Mark Forbes has verbally committed to join Villanova in fall 2018.

Reading United midfielder Aaron Molloy scored a goal for Penn State from midfield.

Villanova freshman Yusuf Cueceoglu was named Big East rookie of the week.
